Wimbledon Windmilers Running Club is London's second biggest running club and probably the most friendly and welcoming with over 500 members of all ages and abilities. If you've just starting runing and want to meet people of the same level then you'll be in great company for training and socialising! The best place to start is our Sunday morning (see photo-story) social run. For the more experienced runner we have members competing at all levels in a variety of races including county cross-country, club relays, marathons, triathlons and adventure racing. There's a wide range of coached training sessions: Tuesday evening (speedwork), Thursday evening ( hill training), Saturday mornings (track), and Sunday mornings (social & longer runs). As you'd expect when we're not running there is also a very active social side to the club.

Windmilers London Marathon Estimated Times |
|
If you're planning on watching the London Marathon from the Windmilers viewing point (See other article on the website) then thanks to a huge amount of investigating by Joanne Clarkson we now have full details of all known Windmilers (there may be others!) running the marathon.
Their predicted times and what they will be wearing are shown below - click on read more. If you have not yet sent in your details please email them to Joanne (joanne@clarkson.com) before lunch-time on Friday. Copies will available for supporters on the day.
This gives the time it should take in hours and minutes at which they should be passing the 13.5 and 21.5 mile points. Don't forget that the actual time they pass will depend on how much of a delay they experience before they cross the start line. Often it takes a good few minutes to move across due to the sheer numbers of runners.

London Marathon Supporters & Drinks 13th Apr |
|
Once again, we will be supporting all the participating Windmilers and friends who are running in the London Marathon on Sunday 13 April. If you click on the Google Map we will be on the North side of The Highway road at the point indicated by the bottom-right red marker just above where it says "A1203 The Hwy". Look out for the Windmilers vertical flag - we're going to strap it to the tallest lamp-post we can find! This is almost half-way at the 35k/approx 21.5 mile mark.
If you are coming by public transport, which is strongly recommended, go to Shadwell Station, walk straight ahead to the top of Dellow Street and turn left onto the Highway. There will probably be signs but please call us if you need directions on the day. We should be there to see the Elite Women who will coming through around 10am, followed by the wheelchairs and the Elite Men before the masses. These will be approximately 45 minutes apart.
If you are running and haven't done so already, please can you send an email to Juliet (juliet_walshe@yahoo.co.uk) or Joanne (joanne@clarkson.com) with your approximate time and most importantly, your vest colour and charity.
Timings/Directions: (click to view map)
Arrive Wimbledon Station 8.30am
Trains 8.38am and 8.42am
Arrive Waterloo 9.00am (approx)
Arrive Shadwell 9.45am (approx) then walk to The Highway location.

Marthon Training Advice - Crooked Billet Wed 2 April |
|
We hope your training and racing has been going well. We are holding a pre-marathon training advice session on Wednesday 2nd April at 7.30pm in the back-room at the Crooked Billet. This meeting is timed to happen before the London/Paris races but will also be relevant for the Edinburgh people.
It will cover things like tapering (obviously started for Paris/London but not Edinburgh), what to eat/drink/run in week before race, what to do on night before and on the day of the race and in the race itself. We will also have a session on running in worst of the weather (especially hot weather - how much should I drink, should I wear a hat etc?).
We also will try and have someone present (*) or at least notes from people who have run the following marathons before and so can give direct advice on the course, toilet facilities and any quirks of the race: London*, Paris*, Edinburgh* (if possible), New York. Please indicate if you would like some insider info on any other marathon?
If you intend to come to the meeting, please let me know (if you haven't done already). It would also be good if a few of us chose to eat at the Crooked Billet as well as they have let us use the room for free? Cheers, Jeff, Windmilers Events Coordinator jeff.hoadley@waitrose.com
